Nelson Perna — Owner and Mason
I am Nelson Perna, the owner of Perna Masonry. When you call my business, you talk to me. When I come to your house for an estimate, I am the person who looks at the job and gives you the price. And when the work starts, I am the person who shows up to do the work. I have been doing masonry for over 20 years. I am not a salesman who sits in an office and I am not a project manager who just stops by to check on a crew. I am a mason who runs his own business and takes pride in every brick, stone, and paver I lay.
I live and work right here in Farmingville. My business is built on my reputation in this community. I do not spend a lot of money on big ads or marketing agencies. Most of my customers are my neighbors who found me because I did a job for someone they know. I believe that if you do good work at a fair price and treat people with respect, the work will find you. That is how I have run Perna Masonry for two decades, and it is how I will continue to run it.
One of the biggest differences between Perna Masonry and other contractors on Long Island is that I never subcontract my work. A lot of companies will sell you a job and then hire a different crew to actually do it. You never know who is showing up at your house or what kind of experience they really have. With me, there are no surprises. I am on every job site from the first scoop of dirt to the final walkthrough. I handle the details myself because that is the only way I can be sure the job is done right.
I am fully licensed and insured in New York State. I understand the local rules in Suffolk County and I pull permits whenever they are required. I tell people straight on every estimate what the job needs and what it will cost. I do not believe in lowballing a price just to win a job and then adding on extra costs later. You get an honest price for honest work. My goal is to build something for you that looks great and stays that way for as long as you own your home.
Long Island winters are very hard on masonry. The freeze-thaw cycles we get here can destroy a patio or a set of steps in just a few years if they are not built correctly. I have seen a lot of shortcuts taken by other contractors over the years. They skip the proper base prep or they use cheap materials. It might look fine the day they finish, but two or three years later the pavers are sinking or the mortar is crumbling. I take the time to do the job right the first time. I use a fully compacted gravel base on every single job because I know that is what keeps the work from failing. I build things to last.

"Super clean work and really professional."
What You Can Expect from Perna Masonry
Owner on Every Job
You get Nelson on the job. Not a crew that was hired last week. Nelson does the work himself on every project, start to finish.
Honest Estimates
Nelson looks at the job, tells you what it needs, and gives you a clear price. No lowballing to win the job and no surprises when the invoice comes.
No Shortcuts on the Base
The base is the most important part of any patio, driveway, or walkway. Nelson uses a fully compacted gravel base on every job because that is what keeps the work from failing.
Clean Job Site
Nelson leaves the property the way he found it. Debris is cleaned up at the end of every day.

20+
Years Experience
A Commitment to Craftsmanship
Masonry is an art form that requires patience and precision. Whether I am cutting a piece of bluestone to fit perfectly around a corner or making sure the pitch of a new patio is exactly right for drainage, I never rush the process. I believe that the difference between a good job and a great job is found in the details that most people never see.
I have spent over two decades working with all kinds of materials. I know how Cambridge and Nicolock pavers handle the weight of a car on a driveway. I know how Pennsylvania bluestone changes color when it is wet. I know which mortar mixes hold up best against the salt we use on our steps in the winter. This experience is what I bring to every project I take on.
When you hire Perna Masonry, you are hiring a craftsman who cares about the outcome as much as you do. I want you to be happy with the work the day I finish, and I want you to still be happy with it ten years from now. That is the standard I set for myself and for every project that carries the Perna name.
